Zentangle Bird
I wanted to try an idea I'd seen in Sherrill Kahn's "Magic with Markers" book. Instead of the little native American dolls she creates, I drew a stylized bird on white cotton fabric, and added lots of bling with a black Ultra-Fine Sharpie. Fun! Color was used to add interest with: metallic markers, water soluble colored pencils, and fabric paint markers. I cut around the bird shape with a layer of plain cotton underneath, then sewed almost all the way around the edges. In the 1 1/2 inch opening, I stuffed cotton balls to make my bird dimensional. Finally, I finished the edges with a dark red zigzag stitch.
Work from the Exhibit
It's been over a month since I've posted, and here's my excuse: my camera was lost on a trip up to Montana to see family. I'll be getting a new one soon, but in the meantime here are a couple images from the exhibit of my work this summer in the lobby of the Colorado Springs City Administration building.
