Mixed Media Stitched Collage

This is one of my pieces in the Ecclesia show this month. I veered off my usual path and based these on my edited photos instead of paintings, simply due to time constraints. I had an article deadline and Christmas preprations to budget my time for also. The cat is printed on silk organza and stitched down onto my hand dyed fabric. You can see the fabric showing through the cat, enhancing the lights and darks.

Creativity During Covid

I've been grateful during these seven months for my interests in drawing, painting and sewing.  I've made use of all this extra time to explore different avenues, like photo editing.

I did a series of quilts based on the faces of older women and the wonderful attributes I see in them.  If you look, you'll see kindness, humor, patience and all sorts of interesting qualities.

New Work for 2020 FRCQ Show

I'm still moving elements around to decide where I'll applique them.  I think I need another one, and I'm leaning towards a dragonfly - I dearly love their intricacies, and to me they represent mystery.

I'm going to call this quilt "Wisdom Brings Harmony".

2019 Desserts and Demos

It's almost time for Front Range Contemporary Quilters big event of the year - Desserts and Demos! I'm sharing a table this year with Marge, and making little things to sell. It's fun to make stuff other than big "serious" projects for exhibitions. Simple, easy pillows, purses, polymer clay pendants, small framed pieces - things that come together quickly and are pretty.

Things with Wings

Here are a couple new works done in the last two weeks. I wanted to use thermofax screens for a theme, and included SoftScrub with Bleach along with screen printing ink in my chosen media. I think it gives the work an interesting contrast when I juxtapose bits of each. I brought these to my fabric artists group yesterday as my show-and-tell. Regular attendance at the groups is a great motivator to create new work and try new techniques, if for no other reason than to have something worth showing!

Bluebird Season

It's time once again for our bluebird nestbox monitoring! These wonderful creatures have migrated back for the season, and we keep stats for national databases on our set of boxes at a nearby park. This is such a marvelous thing to us, I even wrote an article for Somerset's Art Quilting Studio magazine.

Upcoming Boundaries Show

This is a detail of my piece for the Lafayette, CO show coming up in August. I titled it "Unafraid", because this wonderful 102 year old woman has lived a remarkable life and has no fear of the future. I love her face, which has wisdom, humor, peace and so many more beautiful qualities. Looking at her gives me hope for a bright future, even though aging has it's challenges.
