Upcoming Class at the Blue Twig Studio

Saturday April 19th at 10am, I'll be at the Blue Twig teaching spray dye class. Plain white T-shirts are a perfect way to learn about this easy technique - the imagery is based on stencils, with some interplay between positive and negative shapes. The negative shapes make the results more interesting, and we'll use cut shapes from paper for those. Go to http://bluetwigstudio.com for more info or to register.

Another Edited Art Photo

I'm really loving this process of changing the original art and using it for yet another purpose. For instance, I can print this picture and cut it up for a collage.

Photo Editing Fun

I've loved the way you can refine art photos, and am fiddling around with Pixlr express (free version). I may use this for another book on Blurb.com. Here's the same photo with even more special effects:

Always Look Beneath the Surface!

No, this isn't one of my art projects - this is the white plastic underneath the fabric painting I was doing!!! The layers are from the last three projects I finished. I really got a kick out of finding this, and thought I'd share.

Work in Progress

This quilt is one I'm trying to complete to enter in a show at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum. I have some really good bits, but the whole thing lacked something. I put it away during the holidays so I could A. Have a life, and B. Get some other art projects done, such as the upcoming article for Cloth Paper Scissors magazine. Now that I'm taking another look, I can see that there's a need for a bright graphic element. Hmmmmm?

Next Up - Prayer Flag Class

I really admire what Deb Prewitt is doing at the Blue Twig. She's got mixed media and fabric art supplies I could only buy online up until now. I appreciate not having to pay for shipping anymore - AND - being able to see the materials up close to make sure I'm getting something that'll work for me. Her classroom in the back is becoming a hub for art folks like me - in fact, I'm signed up to teach a class Feb. 1st from 10 to noon. We'll be using focus words, lettering, stenciling and other techniques to create our best dreams for 2014 on fabric. Hope to see you there!

Repost of an Older Entry/Doodle Drawing

I'm busy this morning readying my article to send in to Cloth Paper Scissors magazine, so here's a redo for now. This is a drawing from 2010 which I added to a reader challenge on the Sketchbook Challenge blog. I'd like to point out how important it is to keep drawing and maintaining your sketchbook. Drawings from the past can serve as thermofax prints, T-shirt transfers, or just a starting point to develop an idea further.

Visit to the Blue Twig Studio

I worked on the hand stitching for my Cloth Paper Scissors demo this morning at Blue Twig mixed media and fabric art supply center. They have a work space in the back and lots of irresistible pretties to inspire, like Pitt pens in lots of cool colors, art stencils, etc. Deb is a wonderful person to talk to, as well. DO stop by!!!

New Article for Cloth Paper Scissors Magazine!

I'm honored to be asked to do an article on my freezer paper with gesso technique. I'm sorry I'm not allowed to show images yet - every piece of art for the article needs to remain unpublished until the May/June issue comes out. I'm so very excited, and working hard to get my nicest fabric art ready for the deadline in January!
